The Carlkruse.com Blog wishes Bitcoin a Happy 12th birthday

Happy Birthday Bitcoin

Happy Birthday Bitcoin

After 12 Years, the World's Most Powerful Computer Network Redefines Money

MIAMI, FL, USA, October 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — On October 31, 2008 some fellow (or fellows, we do not know for sure) named Satoshi Nakamoto released a nine-page white paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System,” bringing Bitcoin to the world.

One of the core elements of Bitcoin was the concept of a distributed, forward-append only, immutable ledger called a blockchain that was maintained by all network participants. The blockchain would detail every single transaction, with all records linked cryptographically, with the database transparent to one and all.

Another fundamental aspect of Bitcoin is that only 21 million bitcoins, the native token of the network, would ever exist. This stood, and stands, in stark contrast to fiat currencies, such as the U.S. dollar, in which the amount of currency regularly increases, debasing value over time.

In the 12 years since its birth, Bitcoin has become the most powerful computer network in history, currently processing some 142 exahashes per second (EH/s). One exahash is one quintillion calculations.

In its short life, the project has already redefined money and stands ready these next decades to change the way people store and exchange value.

Happy Birthday Bitcoin.

CTEK Builder: Wargo's 1967 Nova Build Puts a Crazy Twist on a Classic Car

John Wargo's 1967 Chevy Nova with yellow and gray paint scheme

John Wargo, of The Custom Shop, says he’s known for putting crazy twists on his auto builds. His 1967 Nova is no exception and features a yellow and gray paint scheme designed to wow.

John Wargo founded The Custom Shop in Flanagan, IL 32 years ago. Since then, the shop has created top-notch builds, including this 1967 Chevy Nova.

Black and white CTEK charger outline for 2020 Builder Challenge powered by CTEK

Six of the nation’s top auto builders are competing in the 2020 Builder Challenge powered by CTEK.

John Wargo is proof that big things can come from small towns. For the past 32 years, his shop has created some of the top auto builds in the nation.

FLANAGAN, ILLINOIS, USA, October 31, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — John Wargo is proof that big things can come from small towns. John and his wife, Kim, own The Custom Shop, in the small Central Illinois town of Flanagan. For the past 32 years, the shop has created some of the top auto builds in the nation.

“I bought my first car when I was 14, so I’ve been a die-hard car guy my whole life,” said Wargo, who is participating in the virtual 2020 Builder Challenge powered by CTEK.

Wargo’s entry is his 1967 Chevy Nova. “We build a lot of muscle cars at the shop, and I really like the body style of the Nova,” said Wargo.

In his designs, Wargo is known for “putting a wild and crazy twist on things.” The Nova is no exception. His yellow and gray paint scheme has the wow factor.

“There are a lot of hidden graphics within the graphics. There’s a hex mesh pattern faded into the paint and ghosted dollar signs coming off the Nova lettering. The top yellow goes down to a darker fade, and there are five colors in that fade transition. The bottom charcoal fades two colors from top to bottom. There are a lot of drop shadows and 3D highlights almost floating on the paint job. The level of detail in the artwork really makes this car jump.”

Wargo added, “We’ve done a lot of carbon fiber stuff on the build to take it to the next level like a high-end race car.”

Taking things to the next level has been a hallmark of Wargo’s builds since the beginning.

While still a high school student, Wargo purchased a total of 16 vehicles. “Back then you could buy a car for $250, spend a couple hundred working on it and sell it for $1,000. Then flip the profits into the next project. I’m still doing the same thing all these years later … it’s just gotten more expensive,” he said.

Wargo opened The Custom Shop three months after graduating from high school. “In our town of 1,000, there was an old Chrysler dealership that had sat empty for a year-and-a-half. I went to the bank and begged and pleaded with them to give me a loan so I could buy the building. It’s the same building I’m in today,” he said, adding The Custom Shop is a family business with his wife, mom, son, and daughter all working for him. His father also worked at The Custom Shop but has since retired.

“There were people who told us on Day 1 a high-end custom shop in a town of 1,000 would never work,” said Wargo. Through hard work and dedication, Wargo and the staff at The Custom Shop have proved them wrong.

“We’ve had more than 300 magazine features as well as 60 magazine covers. It all goes back to hard work. There are a lot of good shops out there, and good shops stay busy,” he said.

Wargo relies on CTEK battery chargers for his builds. “A lot of these show cars don’t get used on a daily basis, maybe once or twice a month. We were having customers come back because their batteries were dead. Once I switched over to CTEK a number of years ago, I’ve seen a 100% turn around in not having those batteries go bad.”

“It’s made for happier customers because they’re not kicking the tires because their battery is dead, and it saves me having to go pick up the car and replace the battery. In my opinion, a CTEK charger is part of the build, it’s not an add on,” he said. “We’ve been in this business for 32 years, we’ve seen products come and go, and we don’t want to give our customers something we can’t stand by. CTEK is the perfect example of a good product. We use it on all of our projects because it works so well.”

In the virtual Builder Challenge powered by CTEK, Wargo will showcase his 1967 Chevy Nova on social media alongside other CTEK sponsored builds. Fans will have a chance to vote on their favorite build at https://smartercharger.com/pages/ctek-sema-360 with the winning builder receiving a CTEK prize package. One lucky voter, drawn at random, will also receive a CTEK prize. Voting will be open Nov. 2-6. DN Unlimited 2020: Europe's Largest Data Science Gathering Goes Global Nov 18 – 20

DN Unlimited 2020: Europe's largest data science gathering goes global | Nov 18 – 20

DN Unlimited 2020: Europe’s largest data science gathering goes global | Nov 18 – 20

The Data Natives Conference will take place online this year and bring together data & technology leaders from across the globe on November 18-20, 2020.

BERLIN, GERMANY, October 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The DN Unlimited Conference, Europe's biggest data science gathering, will take place virtually and invite data scientists, entrepreneurs, corporates, academia, and business innovation leaders to connect on November 18-20, 2020. The conference’s mission is to connect data experts, inspire them, and let people become part of the equation again. With its new digital networking platform, DN Unlimited expects to reach a new record high with 5000+ participants. Visitors can expect keynotes and panels from the industry experts and a unique opportunity to start on new collaborations during networking and matchmaking sessions.

In 2019, the sold-out Data Natives conference gathered over 3000 data, technology professionals and decision-makers from over 30 countries, including 29 sponsors, 45 community and media partners, and 176 speakers. The narrative of DN Unlimited Conference 2020 focuses on assisting the digital transformation of businesses, governments, and communities by offering a fresh perspective on data technologies – from empowering organizations to revamp their business models to shedding light on social inequalities and challenges like Climate Change and Healthcare accessibility.

Data science, new business models and the future of our society

In spring 2020, the Data Natives community of 80.000 data scientists mobilised to tackle the challenges brought by the pandemic – from the shortage of medical equipment to remote care – in a series of Hackcorona and EUvsVirus hackathons. Through the collaboration of governments such as the Greek Ministry for Digital Governance, institutions such as the Charite and experts from all over Europe, over 80 data-driven solutions have been developed. DN Unlimited conference will continue to facilitate similar cooperation.

The current crisis demonstrates that only through collaboration, businesses can thrive. While social isolation may be limiting traditional networking opportunities, we are more equipped than ever before to make connections online. "…The ability to connect to people and information instantly is so common now. It's just the beginning of an era of even more profound transformation. We're living in a time of monumental change. And as the cloud becomes ambiguous, it's literally rewriting entire industries," says Gretchen O’Hara, Microsoft VP; DN Unlimited & Humanaize Open Forum speaker.

The crisis has called for a digital realignment from both companies and institutions. Elena Poughia, the Founder of Data Natives, perceives the transformation as follows:
"It’s not about deploying new spaces via data or technology – it’s about amplifying human strengths. That’s why we need to continue to connect with each other to pivot and co-create the solutions to the challenges we're facing. These connections will help us move forward."

The DN Unlimited Conference will bring together data & technology leaders from across the globe – Christopher Wiggins (Chief Data Scientist, The New York Times), Lubomila Jordanova (CEO & Founder, Plan A), Angeli Moeller (Bayer AG, Head Global Data Assets), Jessica Graves (Founder & Chief Data Officer, Sefleuria) and many more will take on the virtual stages to talk about the growing urge for global data literacy, resources for improving social inequality and building a data culture for agile business development.

Speakers on stage among others:
– Erika Cheung, Executive Director, Ethics in Entrepreneurship
– Cory Doctorow, Science Fiction Author, Activist, and Journalist.
– Whurley (William Hurley), Eisenhower Fellow, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
– Alistair Croll, Founder, Solve for Interesting
– Clare Jones, Chief Commercial Officer, what3words
– Mark Turrell, Orcasci, CEO
and many more …

About Data Natives

Data Natives’ DN Unlimited Conference is the meeting place for a data-driven generation. The event and its participants see data as part of a new cultural identity as well as a new way of communicating, learning, and interacting. DN Unlimited is a virtual platform for a global community of 75,000 scientists, industry experts, entrepreneurs, and technology professionals. Together they change the future of our living and working environment and challenge the status quo.

The first Data Natives conference took place in Berlin in 2015. The conference’s mission is to connect data experts, inspire them, and let people become part of the equation again. Four Trends in Smart Home Safety

Solatube Tubular Skylight with Integrated Solar NightLight

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, October 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — For homeowners and renters alike, smart homes are a great solution that offers convenience, functionality and increased security. And with the holidays approaching, now is the perfect time to find out more about what smart home technology can do.

Here are four of the hottest trends in smart home safety and security.

Tend 1: Integrated Solar NightLight

Almost every one of us has suffered from some type of injury when using the bathroom or getting a glass of water in the middle of the night. Often, the reason for many of these accidents can be linked to either the lack of adequate lighting or that we avoided turning on the overhead lights. Fortunately, a product by Solatube has been invented to answer these challenges. Thinking inside the tube, Solatube integrated a small solar-electric system that collects the sun's energy by day to power a NightLight that automatically comes on at dark. The soft glow, which mimics moonlight, means homeowners won’t have to turn on the lights for late-night trips to the bathroom or to navigate dark hallways and stairs. This hot trend offers a bright solution for safe, automatic nighttime navigation. As an added bonus: natural light has been shown to kill germs, making the home a safer place in more ways than one.

Trend 2: Home Automation and Controls

Home automation and controls is exactly what it sounds like: automating the ability to control items around the house—from window shades to pet feeders—with a simple push of a button or voice command. Homeowners now have the ability to make certain they really did lock the back door or turn off the lights before leaving the house. This trend is taking a security system and turning it into a “smart home” device, and consumers are loving it.

Trend 3: Video Monitoring

Having a solid indoor security camera is now the cornerstone of any good home security system. This happening trend allows homeowners to watch live video footage of their home from their smartphone anytime, anywhere. It also takes the stress away when leaving pets at home for any amount of time. Owners can monitor and speak to their animals while they are away. This convenient trend offers peace of mind and may deter burglars.

Trend 4: Geofencing

Think of geofencing like an invisible fence serving as a virtual perimeter. With it, homeowners can draw around any location on a map and trigger actions from their smartphone when they enter that location through an app. A great example would be an electronic notification sent to mom’s or dad’s cellphone when their child arrives home from school, triggered by the child’s cellphone. This remarkable trend also allows parents to establish a “safety” zone outside of which their child is not allowed to venture. The geofence sends mobile alerts the moment their loved ones enter or exit the area established, tracking their children’s whereabouts. This is also helpful for those caring for elderly parents who may have some dementia. Overall, this trend is making homes safer, smarter and more efficient.

With all of this great technology, being a homeowner just got a whole lot easier.

Lundin Family Giving $2M to UArizona Mining and Mineral Resources Programs with Challenge that Could Bring Millions More

University of Arizona campus

University of Arizona campus

The gift helps the university upgrade facilities, provide support to students and work toward an interdisciplinary school of mining and mineral resources.

We are very excited to be supporting such an important initiative. The drive toward a safer, more sustainable and efficient mining operation requires the very best talent across many disciplines,.”

— Jack Lundin, president and CEO of Bluestone Resources Inc.

TUCSON, ARIZONA, USA, October 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The family of two University of Arizona alumni have donated $2 million to help the university expand its highly ranked mining and geosciences programs and set the stage for an interdisciplinary school of mining engineering and mineral resources.

The Lundin family has made a $2 million commitment and will provide up to $2.5 million in addition in a challenge grant to match funds raised by December 2022.

The family leads the Lundin Group, which comprises 14 publicly traded companies in the natural resource sector that operate in more than 25 countries.

"We are very excited to be supporting such an important initiative alongside the University of Arizona. The drive toward a safer, more sustainable and efficient mining operation requires the very best talent across many disciplines, not just mining engineering and geology," said Jack Lundin, president and CEO of Bluestone Resources Inc., one of the group's companies.

Lundin earned a master's degree in mining, geological and geophysical engineering at the University of Arizona in 2016 and has served on the board of directors for the university's Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources since 2017.

"While most universities' mineral resources programs are shrinking or not keeping pace with change, the University of Arizona has demonstrated a vision and commitment to enhancing natural resources education. This gift is intended to catalyze the resources necessary and to attract industry support to make this vision of creating the best mineral resource program in the world into a reality," Lundin said. "We believe this partnership with the University of Arizona to create a new interdisciplinary school of mining and mineral resources will bring the kind of energy and excitement needed to attract the very best talent, and to prepare students to positively impact the future of mineral resources."

Supplying the Best Possible Workforce

At the core of expansion initiatives is an unwavering commitment to keeping the industry pipeline filled with well-rounded, highly skilled professionals. Thus, the new school aims to prepare a new generation of professionals to enter the mining industry from a broader range of educational disciplines, including finance, law, computer science, environment and social sciences. The College of Engineering, the College of Science and the Lowell Institute are sharing the gift and working together to develop interdisciplinary curriculum and update research and teaching facilities, such as the San Xavier Underground Mining Laboratory.

The University of Arizona – home to one of only 13 mining engineering programs in the nation sanctioned by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology Inc. – is well positioned to advance mining and mineral resources education. In fact, the QS World University Rankings place the university's mining engineering program at No. 3 in the United States and No. 19 in the world. U.S. News & World Report ranks the university's geosciences graduate program as third in the nation among geology graduate programs.

"We look forward to using this gift to become even better," said David W. Hahn, the Craig M. Berge dean of the College of Engineering. "The generosity of the Lundin family will allow us to upgrade our facilities, build partnerships with industry and other universities, and strengthen the department's focus in areas such as data science and artificial intelligence."

The Lundins are based in Canada and Switzerland, but the family maintains strong ties in Arizona and at the university. Lundin and his brother, Harry, who earned a bachelor's degree in mining engineering in 2010, were both at UArizona when Professor Emerita Mary Poulton, co-director of the Lowell Institute, was head of the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering.

Maintaining Commitment to Sustainability

"Mining is more critical than ever as we look toward a more sustainable future for our planet. Mined materials like copper are needed for electric vehicles, windmills and server farms for cloud-based applications," said Poulton, who co-directs the Lowell Institute with Mark Barton, professor of geosciences. "Our location amid some of the largest copper deposits on Earth, world-class faculty members and long-standing relationships with industry mean the University of Arizona has what it takes to lead. This gift will help us take our efforts to the next level."

The gift will also fund the Lundin Family Endowed Chair in Economic Geology within the Department of Geosciences.

"The establishment of this chair will strengthen our economic geology program, which is designed to apply geological research to expand our knowledge and understanding of the distribution of minerals," said Elliott Cheu, interim dean of the College of Science. "Furthermore, by helping us bring together talented faculty and students from a wide range of disciplines, these funds will strengthen the university's outstanding reputation in mineral resources."

As one of the first two areas of study offered at the University of Arizona – along with agriculture – mining has been an institutional cornerstone since the university's founding in 1885.

"Mining has been an important part of the University of Arizona since its very beginning as a land-grant institution," said University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins. "We have been preparing students for mining careers for 130 years, and our alumni occupy leadership positions at mining operations across the globe. With this generous gift from the Lundin family, and the possibility of even more through the challenge, we have an opportunity to significantly advance our world-renowned efforts to ensure safe and sustainable extraction of the important materials we rely upon every day."

"The Lundins' transformational gift is shaping an incredible future for mining and mineral resources at the University of Arizona," said John-Paul Roczniak, president and CEO of the University of Arizona Foundation. "We look forward to rallying additional support as part of their matching gift challenge."
